Winter in the Allgäu
...beautiful winter sceneries in our region
Winter Wonderland
When the snowflakes lightly fall, our holiday region decks itself out
in new clothes. Many rub their eyes in amazement and enter the fresh and glittering winter world,
enjoying the various sports facilities and recovering from the drab monotony of everyday life.
Winter in the Allgäu has many faces with Nordic ski world championships as well as romances of a
long winter evening. Enjoyment is everywhere: if you like it nice and warm have a ride in the horse
carriage on cleared winter roads with the panorama sun terrace, protected from snow. Skiers and
snowboarders on the other hand will be enthusiastic about the many skiing areas located in this
enchanting region at the feet of the Alps.

Winter Sports in the Allgäu
The Allgäuer invested a lot in ski- and winter-amusement:
therefore in comparison with international standards a high level is guaranteed. From the winter
season 2007/2008 on there will be a ski ticket valid for most ski resorts Allgäu-wide. To improve
comfort and service, e.g. reduce waiting-times at cash-desks and ski-lifts, each year new
investments in new techniques are made. Substantiated know-how in combination with modern
techniques like snowguns guarantee well prepared slopes. Both, cross-country ski-runs as well as
ski-slopes are partly lightened and hence create a very special atmosphere. As a matter of fact the
price for a one-day-ticket is below the average of the big ski-resorts of the Alps and costs
between 21 and 35 €.
According to the German Snowboard Magazine Playboard the Allgäuer Alps
is the best Snowbaord region where snowboarder can enjoy themselves. In an international comparison
two aspects were outstanding: on the one hand the funpark at the Fellhorn and on the other hand the
close distance to other ski areas where new terrain can be experienced.
The Allgäu is not
just a leading area in skiing and snowboarding but also for cross-country skiing. In 2005 the FIS
built new cross-country skiing runs for the World Championships in Nordic Skiing around Oberstdorf.
Being open for public these tracks are a real challenge for every fan of Nordic skiing. All in all
the Allgäu offer a wide range in ski-sport on a very high level which is also recognized by the
international sport associations: since 1953 the Four Hills Tournament take place in Oberstdorf
every year. Beside this classical tournament there are several other contests, like the Freestyler
and Snowboarder which are on the right way to gain cult following.

Winter Hiking
Everyday life, its stress and strains lose its immediacy. Simply breathe in
the crystal clear air. Remember almost-forgotten sounds, hear the crackling of the snow at each
step and feel happy and satisfied with life. These are dreams that become reality in the fresh
winter climate of the Allgäu, where the mountains and the steel-blue heaven form a timeless
backdrop.
Walk quietly to the next feeding point for wild animals, wrapped up warm and pulled
along by steaming horses, open up a welcoming door by torchlight - winter has many faces and still
more winter routes to the peak of enjoyment, recuperation and relaxation.
Winter freshness has
a double tradition in the Allgäu. Follow in its footsteps and enjoy some physical exercise. Enjoy
yourself on the blades of the giant wood and hay transportation sledge. Or try a trek with
snowshoes - tiring but delightful in the silent landscape.
Highest- possible views between snow
dunes, following in the footsteps of our trapper forbears away from the beaten
track.
After a day full of highlights
and events the Allgäuer restaurants invite
you to enjoy traditional food, like the famous and very good tasting “Kässpatzen”. And if you did
workout during the day or just want to please yourself try the large and attractive wellness
arrangements offered by many hotels.
