Oktoberfest
The Most Famous Beer Festival in the World
Each year at the end of September the two-week beer festival is held in Munich since 1810. Due to
the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese
of Saxen-Hildburghausen the first
Oktoberfest was celebrated. As the "Fescht" is located on the "Theresienwiese"
it is also referred to as
"d' Wiesn" (lawn) by true Bavarians and wannabes.
6
million visitors come every year to drink a vast amount of beer, dance to Bavarian folk music, use
the rollercoasters, and to make approaches to the other sex.
"O'zapft is!" (Every
Oktoberfest begins with the Mayor of Munich tapping a keg of beer and saying that it is tapped. The
first "mass" is served to the Bavarian Minister President)
